"PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA" (PPC) is an annual event organized by the Government of India, where the Honourable Prime Minister Sri. NARENDRA MODI  interacts with students, parents, and teachers to discuss various aspects related to exams, stress management, and the education system. The program was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 and has since become a popular and anticipated event in the country. The first edition of Pariksha pe Charcha was held on 16 February 2018 in NEW DELHI.

Here’s a brief overview of the key elements of the program:

  1. Objective:

    • The main objective of Pariksha Pe Charcha is to address the rising stress levels among students related to exams. It provides a platform for students to talk directly to the Prime Minister about their concerns and receive guidance on managing exam anxiety, stress, and other academic challenges.

    • The event also aims to emphasize the importance of mental well-being, a balanced approach to studying, and adopting innovative learning methods.

  2. Format:

    • Students, parents, and teachers are selected through a competition and are invited to the event where they interact with the Prime Minister. During the event, the Prime Minister responds to questions submitted by participants on various topics related to examinations, study tips, and stress management.

    • The event often includes live interactions, with students posing questions on stage or through pre-recorded video submissions.

  3. Key Themes:

    • Stress management techniques, mindfulness, and relaxation methods.

    • Encouragement to focus on holistic learning rather than rote memorization.

    • The importance of physical and mental health, balanced routines, and time management.

    • The role of technology and innovation in education.

    • The need to break free from the pressure of comparisons, and focus on personal growth.

  4. Popular Participation:

    • Students from across India, as well as Indian students abroad, can participate by submitting their questions or responses to certain topics.

    • The event often garners significant media attention, becoming a major talking point in the lead-up to examinations.

  5. Positive Outcomes:

    • PPC has played a major role in reducing the stress surrounding board exams, encouraging students to prioritize mental health.

    • It has brought the conversation about the need for reforms in the educational system and the importance of comprehensive learning to the forefront.

DIETS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

GOVERNMENT DIET, BOYAPALEM, GUNTUR

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) was established as part of the National Policy on Education 1986. Government Training Institutions were upgraded to DIETs in phases under the Re-structuring and Re-organization of Teacher Education scheme.

Teacher Education:

Teacher is a key component of Samagra Shik, aiming to provide quality education and improve student learning outcomes. The scheme addresses and gender disparities in school education, promotes equity and inclusion, ensures minimum schooling standards, encourages vocational education, supports the implementation of the Right of Children Free and Compulsory Education (RTE Act, 2009, and strengthens State Councils of Educational Research and Training (ERTs), State Institutes of Education (SIE), and DIET as key agencies for teacher. The main goals include achieving universal access, equity, and quality, promoting education, and enhancing Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs). Effective teacher preparation is essential for developing a skilled workforce of educators who will influence future generations, requiring a multidisciplinary approach and mentorship.

Objectives of the Scheme:

1. Universalization of minimum learning levels with a focus on value education.

2. Provision of excellent lifelong and continuing education

Main Functions of the DIET

      1. Training for both pre-service and in-service teachers.

      2.  Training for non-formal education.

      3. Academic and Resource support, extension/guidance, development of Teaching Learning                      materials, aids, evaluation tools, field interactions etc., to the departments of Elementary and                  Adult    Education systems in the districts.

     4. Research / studies / surveys etc., and experimentation to deal with specific problems of the                     districts in achieving the objectives in the areas of Elementary and Adult Education.

            EXCELLENCE OF DIETs

The idea of "DIET of Excellence" is to turn the functional DIETs (District Institutes of Education and Training) in the country into district-level educational hubs of innovation and excellence. These organizations would be strengthened as centres for curriculum creation, teacher preparation, research, and innovation, enhancing elementary, secondary, and senior secondary education while assisting decentralization initiatives. A "DIET of Excellence" will focus on empowering teachers through in-depth training programmes that improve their topic knowledge, pedagogical abilities, and teaching approaches. Additionally, this “DIET of Excellence will also be committed to creating and upgrading curricular frameworks, textbooks, and teaching-learning materials to adhere to state or national standards and satisfy the different requirements of students. As DIETs traditionally perform studies and action researches to investigate successful teaching practices and educational initiatives, a “DIET of Excellence” will have research and innovation as crucial components that support evidence-based decision-making and ongoing development. “DIET of Excellence” will propagate knowledge sharing, resource mobilization, and the exchange of best practices and collaboration among universities, schools, government agencies and CSOs. It is envisaged that these district-level institutions will be adequately strengthened to become models of high-quality education by exemplifying the "DIET of Excellence," through empowering educators and improving student learning outcomes. In other words, it will make a substantial contribution to the overall development of both students, teachers, schools and the community at large.

           Rational for DIET of Excellence

The rationale for converting existing DIETs into “DIETs of Excellence” would encompass upgraded and modernized infrastructure, fully equipped with the latest ICT and Technology facilities. These upgraded facilities would include smart classrooms, well-equipped labs, latest and digitized library facilities, and digital content. Integration of ICT enables dynamic teaching methods and personalized learning, supporting inclusive education for diverse learners. Thus, DIETs of Excellence would aim to elevate teacher quality, foster innovation, and prepare students to compete in this digital and knowledge-driven society, thereby becoming pivotal pillars of educational transformation at the district level.
